Nostalgia Train
In this series I attempted to recreate the feelings that the song “ Tongue Tied” by Group Love invoked in me. The song sounded very nostalgic and more specifically made me think of childhood summers. I used photoshop to combine images of personal childhood objects and photos of my two best friends to create collage-like images.
Untitled (This again?)
The goal of this assignment was to make a series of images that related to a societal issue that means a lot to you. I picked transphobia because it’s one of the only forms of discrimination that I personally have experience with. The first image is a reference to the iconic “silence = death” poster. The image with the bathrooms was a reference to several states making laws banning people from using the bathroom of their preferred gender expression. In bottom left image I depicted people painting my face against my will; it’s a visual metaphor for how people will force their idea of gender roles onto others. The bottom right one was an expression of “how pretending to be a girl” made me feel, despite my best efforts in my younger years to fit in I never really did and it always felt like more of a performance than being authentic.
