Unforeseen Creature
Personal (2022)
This piece was practice for pieces with more pastel colors as well as one of my first attempts at an illustration that tells a story without the help of dialog or comic structure. While I don’t think I achieved the ladder, I do think the piece succeeds in being a clear image with minimal color and value contrast. Also one of my first digital pieces (I used Fire Alpaca).
In this sequence, you start at the bottom right, a young woman is doing needle art, going left and up the stairs: you see her at the top with a blank expression, and finally in the top right: she’s jumping down the stairs at the viewer. I left the most vibrant colors on her face in the top right because I wanted the final image to be the focal point. Although by making the final image the focal point viewers end up reading it backwards. Ultimately, it was a study that I’m still proud of.
