The Fall

Academic Study (2023)

In my second semester of college, we were assigned to illustrate a comic without any dialogue (except the title). The Professor gave us six two words phrases and we had to sketch ideas for each phrase. I had chosen “the fall” because I thought it was my funniest idea.

When given the prompt “The Fall” the only thing I could come up with was a kid falling out of a tire swing for some reason. Originally he was just supposed to fall on the ground and stay there but the idea of him attacking the swing was even funnier to me. I got super excited about the boy breaking out of the panel structure when falling out of the swing. I knew that I wanted the background to be forest adjacent, so a lot of green and browns so I tried to keep that in mind when picking colors for my character; I separated green into yellow and blue for his clothes to be cohesion. I added the long necklace to help show the movement of the character. I think my biggest critique on this piece was that the kid stops looking like a kid halfway through and I would have to agree, something to keep in mind for future reference. I made this solely in Fire Alpaca
