World Building 2: Joseph
11” x 14”
This is an academic assignment where students where tasked with creating an imaginary world and illustrating five designated pages for it: a cover, a map, some form of architecture, some form of ecology, and a character that fits into the world.
For this assignment I was given more freedom in development than before and I started with the cover and character page first. This helped me fully visualize my beginning and end point as well as set up my color palette and visual style for the rest of the pages. I also gave myself two pages for ecology, so that I could keep my landscape formatting but not disrupt the flow of the pages when placed all together. I believe that these freedoms improved the end result greatly. For the architecture page, I built the house in a 3D modeling program for referencing instead of referencing a preexisting house. I had something painfully specific in mind. I did all the illustrations in Photoshop and created the title for the cover page in Adobe Illustrator and placed them all together in InDesign.
