This comic was an assignment for my Illustration I class. The goal was to create a two page comic with five to six panels minimum about something serious that happened to us. I chose Hurricane Harvey because my entire house flooded and I’ve lived with a fear of water ever since. I really struggled with this assignment since I’m not the biggest fan of talking about myself, especially about serious things, and especially when they’re not in joke format. This was also my first time illustrating something using only photoshop as well as being on a time constraint due to personal issues that came up that semester. Given more time and more mental headspace I would have rendered the water better and completely change the color palette of the entire comic (given that there isn’t one). I sketched everything traditionally, and then tried to follow my sketches as best as possible in Photoshop.
