Album Art

12” x 12”

In this assignment students were put into random pairs and instructed to swap their favorite ablums and remake the ablum cover, back and record sticker.

I started this assignment by really listening to each song, and taking notes on what I thought about each song; mostifs that I noticed and the basic plot of each song since it was an album for a musical. Then I made a mood board of the origal album cover, as well as it’s sequal albums so I could reference the already established visual style. Next I went into typeograpghy, I picked multiple fonts that I though matched the sound of the music and then narrowed it down to two fonts: Academy Engraved STD and P22 Operina Pro. I had alot of ideas for the thumbnails but ultimely I wanted the cover and the back to have the same color palette to unify them but have a visual contrast in ambience. In the opened song, the protagonist to told by the gods to kill the infant son of his enemy, which he does by dropping him off the side of a building. I didn’t want the album to look gorey or fire based dispite the battles happening in the songs (the original album cover had already used those ideas). So instead of illustrating the battle or a dead baby, I chose to illustrate the gods (the greek gods often took the form of birds in mythology) telling the protagonist to kill the baby, and then the aftermath of dropping the infant down the wall.
