This piece was a still life of one of the many bust statues at my college. I started out by mapping where I wanted everything to be in willow charcoal, and kept adding and taking away shadows until everything was in the correct spot. I blacked out the background with more opaque charcoal to make the highlights the focal point, and went back to darken more of the darkest shadows on the bust to tie them together.
