World Building 1: Charlotte

11” x 14”

This is an academic assignment where students where tasked with creating an imaginary world and illustrating five designated pages for it: a cover, a map, some form of architecture, some form of ecology, and a character that fits into the world.

As a class, we started with the setting, or the map page, as something to built onto, then to architecture to expand upon that setting, followed by ecology, what plants or animals live in this new world, and final character that the story revolves around. I have revisited an old concept that I had previously made and edited it to fit into the parameters of the assignment. I struggled with the color palette for this one; I wanted the art to feel foreboding but not scary or threatening. Ultimetely I landed a alot of purples and golds; colored not often found in nature but not too gothic. I didn’t want it to look like a hallowen piece. To complete this, I used Photoshop to create my illustrations and In Design to format them alongside the bodies of text.
