ABC Book
8” x 8” - pencil, alcohol markers, acrylic paint
This ABC Book as an academic assignment where students where tasked to make an ABC Book but the catch was that students where given random six letter words that their stories and illustrations had to revolve around.
I was given the word “rocket” and immediately new that I had to something space themed for my own pure enjoyment. I knew I wanted dark galaxy backdrops, but I also knew that attempting to color dark galaxies around light colored objects would take a long time so I went with a mixed media approach to met deadlines. I hand cut seven 8x8 pieces of paper and painted galaxy patterns on them with acrylic paints. Then I sketched and colored the astronaut, rocket, and other objects in the story on Bristol paper, colored them with alcohol markers, and then hand cut each object out and pasted them onto my paintings. Once dried, I took photos of the pages and put them into Photoshop tweak a few things and then put the edited images into Adobe Illustrator to add the text.
